Position Description:

Summary/Objective
The truck driver position performs a variety of routine and complex transportation work in driving and coordinating transportation plans in support of the Fleet Department.

Essential Functions

  • 1. Perform a variety of duties in the operation of the Fleet Department, such as hauling, snowplowing, dumping, etc.
  • 2. May plan route to insure most economical use of time and equipment.
  • 3. Obtain materials from yard or supplier and haul to yard or job site.
  • 4. Plow snow and salt roads according to departmental policy.
  • 5. Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or repairs to supervisor; clean equipment.
  • 6. Assist in the installing and maintenance of traffic control devices.
  • 7. Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
  • 8. Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.
  • 9. Control traffic at work sites by flagging to guide traffic through work areas, as required or assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and vibration.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet while in the office, or moderately loud when in the field.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is constantly required to use hands and fingers to feel, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and walk.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Hours of work fluctuate Monday through Saturday, 40 or more hours per week.

Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day.

Required Education and Experience

  • 1. High school diploma or GED.
  • 2. 1 year of relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to do the job.
  • 3. Valid CDL License.
  • 4. Clean driving record.

Description:
The Landscape Foreman is responsible for installation and management of landscape and hardscape projects. The foreman is responsible for completing landscape and hardscape installations with great precision and business minded efficiency.

Skill set and educational requirements for position:

  • 3+ years experience
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Reputable driving record
  • Proficient heavy equipment operating skills including front end loaders, mini-excavators, and skid steer machinery with various attachments; other construction equipment as needed
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in installing a variety of hardscape applications
  • Knowledge of perennials, shrubs, evergreens, and trees: identification and cultural requirements
  • Highly motivated, self-driven individual who is detail orientated
  • Excellent attention to detail while working in a fun & fast paced environment
  • Verbal & written communication skills
  • Good time management skills; be available for long hours all year round
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task
  • Able to work effectively with individuals of differing knowledge and background (i.e. clients, contractors, vendors, other designers)

Other position requirements:

  • The Landscape Foreman may be required to work over 40 hours a week to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • The Landscape Foreman may be exposed to any or all of the following job related hazards:
    • Stress related to job function.
    • Hazards related to computer usages including but not limited to eye strain, back strain, carpel tunnel syndrome, etc.
    • Lifting or moving objects weighing up to 50 lbs. d. Nursery site hazards.
    • Other standard office and work-place hazards.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and manages landscape crew.
  • Ensures that each crew member is trained appropriately for each designated job assignment
  • Participates in and conducts all job site safety briefings with crew members
  • Ensures that all crew members utilize all required personal protective equipment
  • Understands and instructs crew members on proper job site security procedures
  • Ensures that all installation work is performed in accordance with industry and company standards
  • Ensures that all equipment safety and maintenance procedures are followed
  • Performs administrative functions pertaining to crew management
  • Interacts with clientele in order to help ensure job satisfaction
  • Understands financial aspects of each job assignment
  • Supervises all crew members during the performance of all assigned work

Description:
The Landscape Technician is an experienced landscape team member working with minimal supervision. The position assists in directing the activities of a team of two or more laborers at a job site. The landscape technician is able to operate a variety of equipment and has a working knowledge of horticultural practices.

Skill set and educational requirements for position:

  • A high school degree or GED is required, plus one year’s experience in the landscaping field is preferred.
  • Candidate must be able to read and write.
  • The successful individual will have a working knowledge of standard horticultural practices, including but not limited to planting, pruning, and fertilization.
  • Good oral and written communication skills, job planning skills, and mechanical aptitude are a must.
  • Ohio Driver's License and insurable by the company's agent.

Other position requirements:

  • The Landscape Technician may be required to work over 40 hours a week to accomplish goals.
  • The Landscape Technician may be exposed to any or all of the following job related hazards:

  • Operates automatic and stick shift vehicles, such as dump trucks and truck and trailer combinations.
  • Assists the team leader in interacting with clients by way of introductions at the beginning of a job, answering questions, responding to client requests, making reasonable changes to the plan, and providing a walk-through at the job’s completion.
  • Assists the Landscape Foreman in completing the necessary paperwork including timesheets, work orders, change orders, material requisitions, and client tickets.
  • Assists the Landscape Foreman in planning and organizing the job, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available. Also ensures that job is completed in the most time-efficient manner.
  • Assists the Landscape Foreman in managing a team of two or more employees, communicating to the team leader about personnel issues, and assisting in the training of employees on policies and procedures.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment, including work site and equipment.
  • Briefs Landscape Foreman and makes recommendations on job status, personnel issues, or client concerns. Works as a member of the team.
  • Helps, as necessary, with snow removal during the winter months.
  • Maintains assigned equipment and notifies mechanic of needed repairs.
  • Applies chemicals under the direction of licensed applicator.

Success Factors:

  • A successful Landscape Technician will have the ability to efficiently and effectively work with the Landscape Foreman and Designers to complete residential and commercial installations.
  • The Landscape Technician must professionally and politely interact with all customers.
  • She/he must also gain excellent plant knowledge.
  • She/he must also be able to interact with all staff, vendors, etc. in a professional manner at all times.

  • 5. Reads maintenance order, reviews plan with Lawn Care Foreman/Supervisor/Manager/Specialist, and applies fertilizers, weed control and lawn and bed maintenance according to specifications.
  • 6. Operates a variety of mechanical equipment including but not limited to tillers, sod cutters, weed eaters, core aerator, slice seeding machine, plant augers, chain saws, and drills.
  • 7. Operates automatic and stick shift vehicles, such as dump trucks and truck and trailer combinations.
  • 8. Assists the Foreman and/or Supervisor in interacting with clients by way of introductions at the beginning of a job, answering questions, responding to client requests, making reasonable changes to the plan, and providing a walk-through at the job’s completion.
  • 9. Assists the Lawn Care Foreman/Supervisor/Manager in planning and organizing the job, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available. Also ensures that job is completed in the most time-efficient manner.
  • 10. Assists the Lawn Care Foreman/Supervisor/Manager in managing a team of two or more employees, communicating to the team leader about personnel issues, and assisting in the training of employees on policies and procedures.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to have full range of mobility in upper and lower body; be able to reach overhead; be able to work in various positions, including stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling and squatting for extended periods of time; be able to lift, pull and push materials and equipment to complete assigned job tasks; and be able to frequently lift 50 pounds of weight throughout the assigned workday.

1-6 years landscape industry preferred. Associates or Bachelor degree in landscape design, horticulture or related field of study.
